PITTSBURGH – The Gluten-Free Awareness Tour, on Saturday, January 26th, makes the first of a series of nine stops in the US, kicking off their “Are You Gluten-Free?” tour at the DoubleTree Hotel in Monroeville, Pennsylvania.
“This is the third year in a row we’ve kicked off the Gluten-Free Awareness Tour in Pittsburgh,” says Kish Williamson, Operations Manager for the Gluten-Free Awareness Tour. “Attendees have fun, meet new friends and learn about celiac disease and gluten-free food from the experts.”
Among the highlights of this year’s tour are cooking demonstrations by three rising stars ofthe gluten-free cooking world: Chef Jean-Rene Renusen, Chef Peter Klarman and Chef Anna Harouvis.
Chef Jean-Rene Renusson literally grew up in the kitchen, even taking his first steps in the kitchen of the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Chicago. His father, world renowned pastry chef, Gilles Renusson was head pastry chef at the hotel. It wasn’t long before Jean-Rene was off to Austria to apprentice at a pastry shop and then to a patisserie in Grand Rapids, Michigan where he lives today.
The Louisville, Kentucky based Chef Peter Klarman, aka ‘The Chef of the Future’, will have your mouth watering as he cooks up a storm on the Main Stage! His book, “Better Food for a Better You,” offers dozens of delicious and nutritious recipes he created for a healthy diet. While overcoming health issues, Chef Klarman devoted his life to studying food and nutrition and using foundational health principles to create delicious and nutritious recipes.
Chef Anna Harouvis grew up in a Greek family with a strong food heritage. Her grandmother had two separate kitchens, both of which bustled with activity; and her father owned The London Bar and Grill, a popular eatery on Public Square in Cleveland, Ohio. “It (cooking) was in my blood.” Says Harouvis, “preparing and eating food was a sacred act in our house”. Her Good to Go Café, located in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, is a testament to her personal mission to “give people good tasting food that was healthy.” She will share her amazing gluten-free cooking tips in Pittsburgh.
Besides guest appearances by Chefs Renusson, Klarman and Harouvis, tour attendees will meet celiac disease experts and sample products from dozens of the largest gluten-free food and beverage manufacturers in the country including, Enjoy Life, Blue Diamond Foods, Glutino, Udi’s Gluten-Free, The H.J. Heinz Company, Caesar’s Pasta Products, Snyders-Lance and Rudi’s Gluten-Free Bakery. Local vendors participating in the event include Gluten-Free Zone, Today’s Market and Herbalicious.
